You know....

Over the years I really tried my best to "do it all".  It's come dome to this. I can't. Well it's not that I can't there are some things I am good at then they're others that I'm not. Take for instance; me being a writer. It comes with its advantages and issues. You take the good along with the bad (especially when it comes to critiques) Then you have the label of "author" ok, so what if at times you doubt yourself and can't create a new story to write about. It can take up to years for a new book. Last but not least a self published author; you have to know how to market your book and yourself.

It is hard to maintain your role as a writer by keeping up with writing but it's a struggle to know how to advertise yourself and your work. When you have a 9-5 daily job or worse; a schedule that has you different hours a day. When do you find the time to continue to promote yourself & work?  I have read numerous articles and watched many tutorials & webinars on "How To" and at the end they all ask for a fee to promote you. Hmm sounds like a catch. Many of them tell you it's all about:
  1. How you market yourself
  2. Social Media
  3. Using links & urls in your own blogs/articles/pages
  4. Pay to advertise
  5. Join this website to promote yourself
If I wanted to use everyone elses links in my blogs I think It would be promoting them; not me or my work. Ya think? I understand completely how the internet is important in being a writer/author but to what extent do we need to go through in order for our work to get recognized or to succeed if you're not involved in social media marketing?

I know I can't do it all but I am also a realist. I won't "Pay" for fake followers and likes for my business pages. That is ridiculous. I've said it before and will say it again. "I would rather have a small amount of REAL fans who enjoy what I write; than thousands who follow for the trend".

Sometimes I feel like never working a 9-5 job again and just write all the time. (which is what I prefer to do anyway) Then the reality of me needing to put food on the table hits also. If you're not a well known/ financially successful author; you have to worry about keeping your 9-5 job. I am just your local Chicago latina who enjoys writing, published her first book 4 years ago, writes for an online magazine and work a 9-5 job I hate. Hey there you go an idea for a new book.. LoL

Anywhooo. I keep it real and will continue to do so as always writing straight from the heart. Not paying for anyone to like my pages, articles or books.... )0(

Till tomorrow.
